It has recently been observed that cyber attackers are compromising official e-mail accounts belonging to various institutions and using them to send deceptive (phishing) messages.In order to maintain our institutional cybersecurity, we would like to remind you of the following important points:

• Risk of Non-Intended Use: Your Boğaziçi University e-mail addresses should be used solely for academic and professional purposes. This is not merely a preference, but a fundamental requirement of institutional security. Avoiding the use of university e-mail addresses for personal memberships and services (such as shopping platforms, social media accounts, etc.) is critically important in preventing our accounts from becoming exposed to cyber risks.
• Do Not Be Misled by Appearances: Even if an incoming e-mail appears to originate from an "edu.tr" domain or a familiar institutional address, please be aware that the account may have been compromised by cyber attackers. Always exercise caution when dealing with unexpected requests, suspicious links, or attachments. Our priority should not be trusting the sender automatically, but verifying the authenticity of the message.
• Password Security: To ensure the security of your account, please use strong and difficult-to-guess passwords, avoid reusing the same password across different platforms, and update your passwords regularly. The strongest component of cybersecurity is the digital awareness and vigilance demonstrated by users. If you encounter any suspicious situation, please contact the Information Technologies Department without delay.
